Open Gardens
Weekend
Summer Fête & Fun Day
24 & 25th June, 2000
Take a tour round Wymondham, dropping off to visit any of over a dozen open
gardens, large and small, traditional and contemporary in style. Family
tickets are £5, available from 44 Main Street (opposite the Berkeley
Arms) and also at the Windmill, the Sir John Sedley Centre (near the school)
and all participating gardeners.
The gardens will be open from 2.00 - 6.00pm
on both days. With your ticket you will receive a guide and map of the
village with an entry form to the Treasure Hunt. First Prizes are vouchers
to the value of £25 (adult) and £10 (children up to 12 years).
Prizes are sponsored by the Grange Garden Centre, Asfordby Hill, who will be
selling plants at The Pines, Butt Lane on both days.
On the Saturday the Primary School is
holding a fête and open day and the Sir John Sedley Centre's nursery
school will be running a creche. St Peter's Church will be open throughout
the period and an art exhibition is to be held in the nearby Village Hall.
Old Bakery Antiques is to be open on both days, as is the Berkeley Arms.
As well as the pub, you'll find plenty of
places to stop for refreshment and to answer calls of Nature. There's plenty
of carparking, and Wymondham is popular with cyclists. On the Saturday, the
Rutland Flyer bus leaving Melton at 11.00am and 1.00pm or Oakham at 11.50am
and 2.45pm would allow time for a visit.
