Glebe Road is a single-track lane, extending south-west towards the
village of Stapleford, beyond the crossing of the Cambridge to
Birmingham railway line. The crossing gates are still operated
manually, day and night. They are normally kept shut to road
traffic, but there are alternative routes via Edmondthorpe or
Stapleford. Central Trains provide a seven-day service (nearest
stations Oakham and Melton Mowbray) with up to 17 trains a day in
each direction.
Take care, if using the side gates to cross on foot: the track was
laid with extreme curvature to avoid Stapleford Park, making oncoming
trains difficult
to spot.
