Imagine the calls of the rooks from the tops of the trees on a windy day. Remains of a Roman villa have been excavated from the nearby paddock since the late 18th century. These include a tessellated (mosaic) pavement; a bronze lock; portions of local stone columns; and box-tiles from the hypercaust heating system.
