Dangerous veg!
Melton Times, January 13, 2000

Delivery driver Reg Crabtree has diced with death before but when he was trapped by six tonnes of frozen vegetables he thought he’d had his chips.

The 61-year-old was unloading the vegetables when they came loose and poured on top of him.

He said: “I’ve had one or two lucky escapes in my time but while I was trapped I thought ‘Reg, this is the last one, you’re not going to get out of this one’.”

Luckily he managed to free his left hand which was spotted by farmer Nigel Hancock who he was delivering the vegetables to in Lincolnshire.

Reg, of Brickyard Lane, Wymondham, said: “Nigel knew I was having problems and came looking for me. He looked around the yard and in the cab and wondered where I’d gone.

“Then he saw my hand and called the emergency services.”

Reg was checked at hospital but given the all-clear.

Around 25 years ago Reg got crushed between two girders and says he ended up with a crushed stomach and broken leg. And only a few months ago a one ton potato box fell on him leaving him with nasty bruises.
